Expert-Aide - Manager Assistance Program
Part of our long-term disability benefit and available at no extra cost, Expert-Aide gives employers a way to reach those employees who need additional support. Expert-Aide services include:
- Confidential telephone counselling and coaching to help with unresolved issues.
- Access to professionals with a wide range of expertise.
- Orientation sessions to let managers find out exactly how Expert-Aide works.
- A variety of online educational booklets, available via our protected VIP Room Web site. These booklets offer help and guidance for managers faced with problematic situations such as managing change and dealing with difficult behaviour, or more volatile situations like managing substance abuse and avoiding violence in the workplace.
- Trauma Services for individual and group support and on-site defusing and debriefing support in the event of serious workplace incidents that have adverse consequences on employees.
When a manager refers an employee…
Expert-Aide offers employees confidential, short-term counselling support. By simply calling the toll-free number indicated on the wallet card provided, the referred employee gets access to expert consultations, coaching and information services. Expert-Aide’s counsellors can help with:
- Family matters such as relationships, marital problems, childcare and parenting issues and eldercare concerns.
- Depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns.
- Dependency problems such as compulsive gambling and alcohol and drug abuse.
- Work-related difficulties such as professional burnout, stress, job dissatisfaction and career orientation.
- Personal problems such as grief, bereavement, isolation and stress.
- Legal and financial concerns.

Expert-Aide services are provided by Standard Life in partnership with Shepell·fgi, one of North America’s leading Employee Assistance Program (EAP) providers. Shepell·fgi is committed to the highest standards of privacy, confidentiality and data security to protect the personal information of all Shepell·fgi EAP clients. The Expert-Aide program is completely confidential, within the limits of the law. Based on Council on Accreditation privacy standards, Shepell·fgi's Privacy Policy complies with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
